The International Study Group (ISG) for Beh~ et's disease (BD) proposed new international criteria for BD in 1990. The aim of this study was to assess the performance of these criteria in new patient groups.
300 patients with BD from: Japan (8); China (76); Egypt and Saudi-Arabia (147); Commonwealth of International States (CIS)(29); United Kingdom and USA (40) were studied. The diagnosis of BD was made clinically at each centre by an experienced physician. 62 control patients (from China) were studied to characterize disease specificity. Data for both Beh~ et's cases and controls were recorded on a standard record form similar to that used in the original criteria study. Sensitivity and specificity of the ISG and other criteria sets in current use were determined. The sensitivity of the Japanese criteria was 84%; Mason-Barnes: 81%; O'Duffy: 57%; Dilsen: 91%; Zhang: 98%; ISG; 90%. The sensitivity of the ISG was …
