Aim
To investigate the OUTCOME of the RETINAL VASCULITIS in ADULTS & CHILDREN, MEN and WOMEN.
Material & Methods
In this retrospective, descriptive study which has been conducted from 1996-98at the shariati hospital of Tehran behcet's unit), all the patients with complete BEHEST'S DISEASE & ocular involvement who have consulted, the eye clinic have been investigated. The eyes have been examined. The files of the patients have been reviewed and summarized. The patients who could be completely examined and had at least one year of ocular manifestations were selected and 245 files were randomized. The findings were compared with student T test.
Results
81.22% of the patients had RETINAL VASCULITIS. In the adult population (over 20 years) 83.8% and in the young population (20 years or less) 73.3% of the 60 patients had vacuities. In the 146 males 85.2% & in the 99 females 73.7% had RETINAL VASCULITIS. In the adult-males (112 cases) 89.3% and in the adult-females (73 patients) 75.3% had retinal vacuities. The final vision in 34% of the eyes of the ADULTS and 21% of the CHILDREN, in 38% of the adult-males and 27% of the adult-females was less than 1/10 optic atrophy & vascular necrosis was more common in the eyes of the adult-males 30% compared with adult-females 16.3% these lesions were more frequent in ADULTS 25% than CHILDREN 20%.
Conclusion
RETINAL VASCULITIS was observed in 81.2% of the patients. Vasculitis was more frequent in ADULTS than CHILDREN P=< 0.05 & it was more frequent in adult males than adult females P=< 0.001 vascular necrosis and optic atrophy was …
