The epidemiology, clinical aspects, and treatment of human intestinal infections with Giardia,
Cryptosporidium, coccidia and Strongyloides in industrialized countries are reviewed. In well-
nourished and immunocompetent persons, inapparent infections or mild, transitory
gastrointestinal upsets caused by these parasites are quite common. Some patients develop
