The results are consistent with the suggestion that ASBs are largely elements of
communicative behavior initiated by the dog which are reinforced by the owner either
deliberately or inadvertently. The results further suggest that owners are inconsistent in this
reinforcement and that the control of these behaviors in problematic situations will depend
on increasing owner understanding of their role in the development and maintenance of
these behaviors.
