The first experiments on the totally new process discussed in this paper were conducted in
France in 1988. Since then, almost 1,000,000 sq m have been successfully laid. The
technique involves in situ creation of a reinforced membrane composed of a layer of
elastomer binder onto which continous threads are sprayed immediately after it is laid. The
threads interweave to create the reinforcement. This paper describes the process, gives the
