Runway slipperiness research performed in the United States and Europe since 1968 has
been reviewed. This review suggests the following benefits to the aviation community: Better
understanding of the hydroplaning phenomena; a method for predicting aircra~ tire
performance on wet runways from a ground-vehicle braking test; runway rubber deposits
