Survey of cathodic protection systems on Virginia bridges
MC Brown, SR Sharp - Transportation research record, 2008 - journals.sagepub.com
A study investigated the status of cathodic protection systems that had been deployed on
Virginia highway bridge structures over the past 24 years. A variety of system types had
been used on structures located across the state. The general design, current status, and
notes about observed performance of each system are presented. A summary of general
observations about the state of cathodic protection technology in Virginia is provided. From
visual observations, review of available condition reports, and discussions with system …

Survey of cathodic protection systems on Virginia bridges.
SR Sharp, MC Brown - 2007 - rosap.ntl.bts.gov
The Virginia Department of Transportation uses cathodic protection (CP) systems on steel-
reinforced concrete structures to extend the life of these structures. The purpose of this study
was to identify, categorize, and evaluate the performance of the CP systems that have been
used on these structures. These systems included galvanic anode CP (GACP) systems and
impressed current CP (ICCP) systems. Some of these systems are exposed to chloride ions
because of their location in a marine environment; others are on structures located inland …
