RESEARCH RECORD 1362 Thermogravimetric Analysis of Carbonate Aggregate WENDELL
DuBBERKE AND VERNON J. MARKS Research has shown that one of the major contributing
factors in early joint deterioration of portlund cement concrete (pee) pavement is the quality of
the coarse aggregate. Conventional physical and freeze/thaw tests are slow and not satisfactory
in evaluating aggregate quality. In the last 10 years the Iowa DOT has been evaluating X-ray …

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this research is to determine if thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) can be used to evaluate carbonate aggregate for use in pee pavement. The findings of the carbonate aggregate TGA study will be presented here.
