The effect of hysteresis on the phase diagram of Pd-H established by isothermal hydride
formation or decomposition is predicted. It is shown that differences between phase
boundary compositions for hydride formation and decomposition increase with temperature
and are quite significant at higher temperatures. Near T c, eg. TT c⪢ 0.85 for Pd-H, it is
suggested that hydride formation and decomposition takes place from the spinodal
compositions and therefore the extent of hysteresis decreases from the predicted values …
