Several methods exist to both provide affordable housing and reduce single-occupant
vehicle trips. Trip reduction measures can reduce the need for parking, and free up land
from surface parking for new development opportunities. That land could be used for both
market rate and affordable housing. Second-car ownership costs about $3,000 per year. By
